Now I adjust the exposure. The meter got me this close and is well within the dynamic range of the sensor. I made a few more test exposures to the point just where the highlights blow out and then back off by about a third of a stop from there. Noise is not an issue in this situation because the image stacking reduces it to nearly zero so I’m free to expose the way I think best.
